  Back to the foundations of the earth When you understand the things we have discussed above, you’ll more readily accept that the earth has foundations. Let us look at a few verses that mention the earth’s foundations. Jer 31:37   Thus saith the LORD; If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath , I will also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith the LORD.  The Lord mentions two impossible things for us to demonstrate that He will never cast off Israel. Measuring the heavens above or searching out the foundations of the earth beneath is impossible for us – just as it is impossible for Him to cast of all the seed of Israel.   The bottomless pit Rev 20:1  And I saw an angel come down from heaven, having the key of the bottomless pit and a great chain in his hand.  Rev 20:2   And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,  Rev 20:3   And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.   This is another mention of the abyss or the bottomless pit where an angel comes down to earth and opens it and casts the devil in and then shuts it. Can a spinning globe have a bottomless pit in it? Even if it ran from the supposed 'North pole' to the 'South pole', wouldn’t it be pointless to cast the devil into it as he would only need to get out at the other end?   About the Earth Pillars of the earth and foundations Psalm 75:3   The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it. This is one of the mentions of the pillars of the earth where the Lord God says that He bears them. The word translated as pillar also means column. It is the same one used for the pillars of the house which Samson brought down before he died.  Job 9:6 Which shaketh the earth out of her place and the pillars thereof tremble . Just in case you are tempted to think that this is figurative language rather than a literal statement see the verses below.   Job 38:4   Where wast thou when I laid the foundations of the earth ?
