Biblical Proof of Flat Earth - part 1
About the Earth
Pillars of the earth and foundations
Psalm 75:3 The earth and all the inhabitants thereof are dissolved: I bear up the pillars of it.
This is one of the mentions of
the pillars of the earth where the Lord God says that He bears them. The word
translated as pillar also means column.
It is the same one used for the
pillars of the house which Samson brought down before he died.
Job 9:6 Which shaketh the earth out of her place and the pillars thereof tremble.
Just in case you are tempted to think that this is figurative language rather than a literal statement see the verses below.
Foundations in a building are
used to anchor the structure above,
to bear the weight of the structure
and transfer it to the ground below, and to protect the structure from natural forces such as earthquakes.
Thus we can infer from Job 38:4
that the foundations that the Lord laid for the earth were to anchor it, bear
its weight and make it stable.
Job 38:5 Who hath laid the measures
thereof, if thou knowest? Or who hath stretched the line upon it?
Job 38:6 Whereupon are the foundations
thereof fastened? Or who laid the corner stone thereof;
Foundations are fastened into the
ground. Thus we know from the word of God that the earth is held by foundations
anchored into something below the earth. This is incompatible with the globe theory
as the earth cannot be spinning in space while held down at the same time. It
also cannot have a south pole at the bottom.
Noah's flood and the abyss
We thus know from the word of God
that the oceans have fountains that can be broken up. God broke them up when He
brought the flood upon the earth in the days of Noah. He then closed them up
when the purpose had been fulfilled.
The deep spoken of in Gen 8:2 above directly translates as "abyss" which literally is a bottomless pit. This tells us that the
water coming up is coming from a very deep place.
When Job is being questioned by the Lord, he is asked who shut the doors of the sea when it broke forth. We would have been tempted to call this figurative language if we didn't know the story of the flood and the fact that there are fountains under the sea which can be broken up and cause water to gush forth. However with a background of Genesis 8 we know that the Lord when He refers to the doors of the sea here, is talking about the fountains of the deep. We thus know that the sea has fountains whose doors were shut during creation when God was satisfied with the level of the sea. These same doors were broken during the flood and shut when the purpose had been achieved.
